Abstract

This paper deals with a full-scale investigation of the wind and turbulence structure over a flat postglacial lava surface covered with moss. Emphasis is put on the quantification of mean wind velocity, turbulence intensities and gust factors, Reynolds stresses, surface roughness and integral time scales of turbulence. The wind data applied were obtained using orthogonal arrays of Gill-type propeller anemometers mounted on a 38 m high instrument tower. The data has been recorded more or less continously during the period of one year.
