Abstract

Preliminary paleomagnetic observations from the Tertiary North-Western peninsula of Iceland are described. Their results are shown to yield information on local geological problems such as stratigraphy, absolute ages, eruption processes, paleoclimates and heat flow. The rocks in the area generally have stable directions of remanence, but the dispersion of these directions is remarkably large.
