Abstract
This article describes Icelandic research on word frequencies and the uses to which psychologists can put such data. In particular, the making of a recently completed Icelandic frequency dictionary is described. The publication of this book is an important event for Icelandic psychologists since it is the first to detail frequencies for word lemmas, rather than just word forms. An example is given of the use of the frequency dictionary in the construction of a balanced word list for a dichotic listening test. Finally, an experiment reveals that subjects are capable of judging Icelandic word frequencies to a reasonable degree of accuracy.
