Abstract
As transmission lines are an extremely vulnerable part of the aging infrastructure, they are still a vital part of our society. As they are exposed to the harsh environment, they are incredible prone to faults and therefore it is vital to have protection relays for protecting the transmission lines, equipment and increase the flexibility and resilience of our power system. One of the most reliable protections is the distance protection and often used for transmission lines. With digital relays, real-time monitoring of the impedance is possible and operate at high speeds. This paper implements a model for extended double-circuit line circuit using Matlab/Simulink software to investigate the performance of the three-zones distance protection for extended double-circuit transmission lines, under different fault types and different fault distances.
