Abstract
Two types of gabbroic cumulates, which are distinguished on the basis of the occurrence or the lack of amphibole, are associated with the andesites of the Galunggung 1982-83 eruption. These cumulates grew at the top of the magma chamber and their amphibole is a result of destabilization reaction of olivine and clinopyroxene under important fluid pressure. Anhydrous fractional crystallization may have oversaturated the magma in volatiles at a rate faster than the hydration reaction at the chamber roof which led to an overpressure that triggered the eruption. There is an abridged English version. -English summary
