Abstract

Automatic sorting of fillets and other fish products according to the number of quality defects they contain is the next logical step toward fully automatic fish processing. This will require reliable and practical methods for detection of the various kinds of defects in fish flesh. Bones, cod worms, blood stains, pieces of skin, etc., are defects that can and must be removed before packing. Today the labor-intensive operation of visual detection and manual removal of these defects is a heavy burden on the fish-processing industry.
