NORDIC MANAGEMENT. ICELANDIC MANAGERS IN NORDIC COMPARISON

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In this article, we raise the question of how and if nationality and culture affect management style. Are Nordic managers maybe all the same? Icelandic managers are discussed generally, as is how they compare with managers from the other Nordic countries and the cooperation skills of managers from Iceland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The available research indicates that Nordic management styles are similar but that each nation has a particular character which can be traced to aspects of each national culture. Icelandic management style has much in common with the rest of the Nordic countries. But Icelandic managers set themselves apart by being quick to make decisions, hard-working, and extremely optimistic in the way that they believe that everything is possible (a “just do it” attitude).
