Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

The manuscript AM 604 4to is a thick book written in the middle of the 16th century in Iceland. It is a collection of Icelandic epic poetry, socalled rímur, and has originally contained 33 complete sets of rímur. Colorful marginal notes are a defining feature of the manuscript. Many concern the scribe‘s health and handwriting, but there are also verses and prayers. The most common marginalia, however, are proverbs, which are so numerous as to constitute an entire collection in their own right. Many are still in use in Iceland.
