Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an essential component of online teaching and learning, offering innovative solutions for educators and students alike. This presentation provides practical insights into the use of AI in online teaching, focusing on the field of information science at the University of Iceland. The discussion covers the entire teaching process, from planning and preparing lesson plans to creating teaching materials, slides, and lectures. By utilizing various AI tools, the teaching experience is enhanced through personalized content delivery and more efficient pedagogical strategies.The methodology involves the use of focus groups, student questionnary, and analysis of assignments to assess the effectiveness of AI integration. Students were introduced to multiple AI tools and engaged in discussions via the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), fostering transparency and understanding of AI’s role in education. Assignments encouraged students to explore, practice, and incorporate AI in their own academic and professional work.
Preliminary results indicate that students find learning to use AI valuable, as it enhances their skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and application in real-world contexts. Discussions and practice opportunities were particularly effective in helping students understand and leverage AI tools in a constructive and ethical manner.
